5 Reasons the Holiday is The Perfect Time to Look for Your Vacation Home

“Shopping” and “the Holiday Season” seem to go hand in hand. Images of people fighting for Black Friday deals or desperately scrounging any leftover items just before closing on Christmas Eve are fairly common and very nearly traditional. What isn’t so traditional, though, is images of people searching for their perfect vacation home over the holidays.

Why would you want to spend some of your time this holiday season house hunting? This is normally a very busy time for a lot of people as they try to get the right gifts for everyone and the parties sorted out and the family gatherings ready to go. But, as it turns out, there are several good reasons to use this time to start looking for your vacation home.

  1. Winter is a great time to make an offer on a house.

According to an article from TIME Magazine, winter is a great time to make an offer because there are fewer buyers out there who are willing to brave the cold weather to go and look at homes. This is also a time when people have settled in for the holidays, and don’t want to do anything outside their traditional schedule. What this means for you is less competition and little concern that you’ll get caught in a bidding war.

  1. Sellers are more motivated.

Whether it’s because they just got their credit card bills for all their Christmas spending or just because they want to have some closure by the end of the year, they’re more willing to acquiesce to your offer.

If their home didn’t sell during the peak spring season, sellers are more likely to want to get the deal closed, especially since the next season is more accurately described as “tax season.” These are loose ends, and people tend to dislike that sort of thing, especially at the end of the year.

  1. Get more attention from realtors and mortgage brokers.

This is typically a slower time for real estate professionals, so they’re going to be a little more eager to help you out. Whether it’s getting together to look at a potential home or spending some time with you to get to know the area, there is a lot more time available during the holiday season.

  1. You might have more time, too.

Yes, the holidays are traditionally a very busy time for everyone. However, if you’re visiting some friends or family in a particularly beautiful area – on that you just know will be the future location of your dream vacation home – then chances are you’ve taken some time off work. This means you’re going to have some extra time on your hands. Why not use it to get out there and start house hunting?

  1. Get more access to the home.

You may be on vacation during the holiday season, but so are the people who are selling their homes. This means that it is often easier to schedule a showing. Whether the homeowners are gone or just wrapping things up for the end of the year, this seems to be an easier time to get into a house and show it off.

So, while it may not be all that traditional of a holiday activity, it turns out that this might just be the perfect time to really start looking at a beautiful lakeside home where you can spend your future vacations.
